I played two games of Call of Duty WAW yesterday evening. I have WAW and COD 4 on the Xbox 360 and I was considering trading them in for the PS3 versions.

How did I do? I played in the newbie section and didn’t get one single kill but I did manage a kill assist. Luckily my team won both games so I ranked up to level 3! I got kicked out in the next game because I didn’t have the map though.

I won’t be rushing out to play it just yet.

Trade them in for ps3’s, its only cost a few euros and I’ll play matches with you. It’d be great to (get killed) show other players what we’re made of (guts). Seriously though, if I saw you playing those games on PSN I’d be in in a flash (ask the wife if I could play)

Haha, I might pop down to Blackpool this evening then. I’ll ring around first as I want to get the game of the year edition of whichever game has that. No point being without maps if it can be helped. Mike, David and Cards all have those games too and they’re threatening to play them!

Gamestop were looking for 30 Euro each for both games, and I think I’d get about half that for the trade ins. Nice tidy profit for them.

Get 400 MS points for Xbox Live when you download the Red Dead Redemption multiplayer free roam trailer. Well, if you’re one of the first 5,000 to do so. The promotion started yesterday and I just started my download a minute ago when I remembered. Hope I got in on time. (UK only, but come on, I’m just over the Irish Sea!)

    More on this Joystiq post.

I just wonder what they class as downloading. Do you actually have to physically download it, or just “purchase” it and add it to your download queue?

      • Donncha 11:52 am on April 29, 2010 Permalink | Reply

I downloaded it anyway. Haven’t looked at it yet but the preview I read in Edge magazine makes it sound very interesting!

    Bah! Frapz spammed me!

I received a friend request from an oddly named character on Xbox Live the other day. Looked something like wwwwfrapzcouk with some odd characters thrown in here and there. They then spammed me. Grrr.

    Frapz Spam

Rather embarrassingly for them, their website isn’t even set up correctly:

Friend removed, and complaint lodged. I don’t like unsolicited commercial messages. Especially on a social network.

      Ch3Ap CiAL1s here! Buy N0W!

Kidding. Luckily I’ve avoided most spam so far, with the exception of the spammerous Twitter followers who I dump straight away.

There’s definitely a lesson to be learned here – if you’re going to embark on a spam campaign, make sure your infrastructure is set up properly first.

It was me my [macaroconi from youtube] my account was hacked and that was spammed to my friends list

        • Donncha 9:22 am on April 28, 2010 Permalink

Oh that sucks! Did you get control of it back? Hopefully they banned that Xbox user forever!

    • David Nicol 9:32 am on April 28, 2010 Permalink | Reply

Erm…. frapz is Macaroconi. It’s his modded controller shop. So that “hacked” excuse is cow manure. I unsubbed him when he posted his “I’m selling modded controllers now….. hey everyone’s doing it….” cheating justification video which seems to have vanished. So, yes, I hope Xbox bans that user too.

And to think I featured him in the Three to Watch….

Was that a MONK discount code thing? I received a message from “| Mr Monk |” on XBLA offering a 10% discount from kiwimods.com for rapid fire controller mods.

Ah, it is. Frapz.co.uk in the profile description. Not good at all.

It seems douchery is limitless on xbox.

Tell me again why I should ditch PSN and pay for the privilege of XBL? 😀 Lolzorzzzz

    • mark 10:04 pm on April 28, 2010 Permalink | Reply

Was hardly cow manure, I was doing the site with a few guys and they were using me to get advertised.

      • mark 2:31 pm on April 29, 2010 Permalink | Reply

Well technically i was hacked if after i stopped working with them they hacked into my account and sent the spam… And im removed from the “recommended list”? Shit on a stick!

        • Donncha 3:28 pm on April 29, 2010 Permalink

Wish you had said that first! That was very nasty of them, and illegal too.

        • David Nicol 3:55 pm on April 29, 2010 Permalink

Then you should be getting on to YouTube to get your channel “unhacked” because there’s lot of activity on there about frapz and modded controllers. And if it has been hacked and you are no longer in control of it then it is right that I don’t link through to a compromised channel.

    • mark 6:11 pm on April 29, 2010 Permalink | Reply

Nono My XBOX GT was hacked and that message was sent out, Im back in control of both accounts, The YouTube promos were uploaded by me at the time but my XBOX account was compomised when i lent my xbox to one of the guys i was doing Frapz with for a few days, He spent my remaining MSP to change my XBL to that http://www.frapz.co.uk name and havent been able to afford to change it since so haven’t went online much [not wanting to advertise in every game i join] As to why i still have the frapz stuff on my channel, Quite simply i haven’t been bothered to delete them, Ive had a LOT of work studyling lately and have found more important things to do but will get them deleted now that i remember about them

      Mark.

    Halo: Reach ‘Invasion’ Mode

    Vodpod videos no longer available.

They finally switched off multiplayer for Halo 2 recently, just in time for people to try out the beta of Halo Reach. If you have ODST you got a beta code withe the game. Even though I didn’t think much of ODST (didn’t play it online though) I’m looking forward to Reach, if only because Anthony is counting the days until it’s released. (via)

    • Anthony 12:31 pm on April 18, 2010 Permalink | Reply

Reach will change online multiplayer. It makes every other game’s online offerings look completely obsolete. And after May 3, they will be.

    I’m not Ken Burton!

In future, if someone sends me a friend request and then asks if I’m Ken Burton they’re getting kicked off my friends list. Just recently I received the following message when I switched on my Xbox 360:

    Is this ken burtons account

I replied “no”, and he sent me another message:

    whos account is it

To which I replied, “it’s mine!” and shut down my Xbox. How do people think I’m Ken Burton?

Just checked, his last reply was, “sorry man my bad”. 🙂

Update on April 17th, 2010 I received my first Ken Burton friend request on the Playstation Network. I booted up the PS3 last night to play some Bad Company 2 and this was waiting for me. *sigh*

Free 7 day Xbox Live for MW2 Map buyers

I got a message this morning saying my Xbox Live subscription would be extended by 7 days on May 1st because I bought the Modern Warfare 2 Map Pack on Day 1.

So, let’s see, 34/52 is around 0.65 Euro. A tiny bonus but people will be singing their praises all day I bet!

Meanwhile, here’s a quad bike going airborne courtesy of Field Operative. Wow.

That offer almost makes me sad that I left XBL….. nah not really 😀

      • Donncha 11:46 pm on April 5, 2010 Permalink | Reply

Haha, I knew I’d almost tempt you back to the dark side! I had a quick run through the levels in private games by myself and I liked Overgrown the most. I loved the river bed through the middle and just the general feel of the level.

        • David Nicol 9:47 pm on April 6, 2010 Permalink

The original Overgrown map was much darker and moodier, with a nasty overcast sky. Thinking about it, most of the CoD4 maps had a really oppressive feel to them.

Field Operative published a guide to getting all your friends on to one team in Battlefield Bad Company 2 on Xbox 360. If you use use the private chat feature of Xbox Live you can talk to all of your team! It will take a while to get everyone on the same team because of the limitations of the game but it can be done. It must be quite amazing to play on a team of 12 who are coordinated and following one single strategy.

Unfortunately a similar chat feature doesn’t exist on the PS3 but friends can still join the session if the game has free slots.

    Searching for Ken Burton

The search for Ken Burton on the Xbox 360 continues (by some). I received this strange message yesterday by someone who friended me on Xbox Live (his friend added me too for reasons that are all too apparent now).

Is there a search for Ken Burton’s gamertag on? Surely it’s highly visible on all his videos?

    r u ken burton?

    Mini XBLA Games review:

Chime – it’s for charity, it’s a puzzle game where you have to create 3×3 or larger blocks from a randomly selected shape, think Tetris but the shapes are fully controllable and the shapes you create don’t disappear. I only played one game but it wasn’t altogether clear where to place blocks to full advantage. There is a good game hiding in there but even though a minimum of 60% of the purchase price goes to charity it’s probably not a game I’ll be buying. Great music though.

Polar Panic – you control a polar bear who has to shove blocks to kill the marauding trappers. Great game, cute graphics, and on easy mode it’s very accessible. Tempted to buy it as it’s fun and child friendly. One that my son enjoyed watching me play.

Unfortunately I only have 1240 points left and with the Modern Warfare 2 DLC on the 30th that may be my next purchase.

I had 10 minutes to play something earlier in the day and fired up Bad Company 2, single player for a blast. God, it’s so sedate compared to the multi player online play. I loved it!

You’re actually going to pay the €15 just for 3 new maps and a couple of rehashed maps from the original Modern Warfare…?
It’s just a complete rip-off that you need to pay a quarter of the cost of the game just for a few new things in multiplayer.

      • Donncha 2:36 pm on March 22, 2010 Permalink | Reply

How many hours have I played and (mostly) enjoyed in Modern Warfare 2? I couldn’t count (and the Xbox is off so I can’t check!) but I’m sure after the new maps come out I’ll still be playing it and enjoying it.

It’s not “a quarter if the cost of the game” to me, it’s many more hours of gaming pleasure!

        • dvotee 3:45 pm on March 22, 2010 Permalink

I’m going to get it as I’m new to console gaming and haven’t played the original ones at all so it’s all new to me and I too enjoy the game so to me the expense is neglible compared to getting new content.

        • Donncha 3:48 pm on March 22, 2010 Permalink

Oh yeah, that too. I never played the original maps. We’re going to get slaughtered at first when the old hands at COD play against us on those maps!

    • Donncha 3:47 pm on March 22, 2010 Permalink | Reply

Oh, in case you’re wondering, this not review of Chime is what prompted me to try it. I had read about it in Edge or GamesTM but never got around to trying it out.
