Couple of games of WAW with Conor to start with and I had a few half decent games. Got a few double kills, and even earned the recon plane once. Lots of trash talking in the lobbies of course. If I’m playing it without anyone on my friends list I’m going to set the VOIP volume to 0 so I don’t have to hear all that crap.

    Top of the team!

We followed that up with a coop campaign game, and were joined by 2 others. One of whom sounded like a 12 yro and kept saying, “follow me, I know where the ray gun is!” He got that ray gun of course.

The MP40 with Juggernaut is a beast of a combination and I know I wasn’t the only one using it! The distinctive sound of that gun is easy to make out..

Blur finally as David said they were trying to get some footage for Duck. We joined very late and I only had one game. Conor and I came last and second last. I really don’t think Blur is going to be part of my regular gaming.

Great Bad Company 2 triple commentary by Cards, David and Colin on a game we played 2 weeks ago. What sets this triple commentary apart from others is that I was playing too!
No, that’s not it. David’s editing of the video takes this format to a higher level. In other multi-video commentaries I’ve watched the producer will show the videos of all participants on the screen, one in each corner and I’m left wondering, “Who the hell do I watch? I’m not going to watch each little box! Watch this video 4 times? Screw that!” No, David zoomed in and out of his and Cards’ videos as action took place. It’s a simple trick but takes time to do well and he took that time. Nice work.

PS. Cards says the most powerful class in WAW is the following:

    MP40
    magnum
    Bouncing Betties
    Juggernaut
    Steady Aim.

Heed his warning never use it again once you get good at the game! 🙂

Wondering about the XP in co-op mode found this on the XP page in the call of duty Wiki

“Remember that in Co-op ONLY the XP gained from Co-op challenges count for your level, the XP earned in the Co-op missions for kills or objectives do NOT count.”

Also seriously thinking of doubling the broadband as I’m weary of getting kicked out of online games.

      • Conor 3:20 pm on August 31, 2010 Permalink | Reply

Got the 7GB, going to a broadband test site tonight and tomorrow to make sure there is a difference. Shouldn’t get kicked out of blur again.

        • Donncha 3:29 pm on August 31, 2010 Permalink

That was quick! You should see a difference, but the biggest thing that makes a difference is your ping. You can have all the bandwidth you might want but if your ping sucks the game will suck. Are you using your PS3 over a wireless or wired network?

        • Conor 11:29 am on September 1, 2010 Permalink

Wireless to the modem, one story below, and them lines. Ping eh? doesn’t that improve with better broadband. Explain this to me without mentioning pigeons please.

        • Donncha 11:55 am on September 1, 2010 Permalink

You should try to avoid wireless if you can, especially if the wireless router is far away from you. “Ping” is the time that a packet of data takes to go from your machine to another machine. Wireless will almost always have a slightly slower ping than a wired network. It’s usually a small difference but for gaming it’s huge.

When I used my Xbox over a wireless network to downstairs it would take quite a while to join a game of Modern Warfare 2. When I hooked it up via one of those “network over powerline” plugs it was a wired connection and I joined games so much faster.

Something’s wrong here. I played a few games of Blur yesterday evening and I didn’t come last. I was even beating Ducky for a while too! Yes, he caught up and overtook me eventually but that’s not the point! 🙂

    • David Nicol 10:00 am on August 11, 2010 Permalink | Reply

I don’t remember him overtaking you, according to my failing memory (getting old, y’know) you beat him. I’m sure Duck will post some ridiculous comment about he did win, but due to the fog of war we’ll never truly know what happened.

It didn’t last and I’m last again. The drivers in Blur must rub their hands in glee when they see me coming!

Well, that was fun. Blur that is. Despite suffering from selective amnesia, I built up my series of 1st place wins in Blur, beating Ducky by a huge margin each time. Poor guy. David did really well too, we basically shared the 1st and 2nd places in each race! (*)

(*) The above may or may not be true, but much fun was had nevertheless.

For a more accurate record of what happened, read David’s post. 🙂

And just for Ducky, here are some photos of Timoleague, at least one of which will be instantly recognisable.

which one the delorion? because everybody know they cam from timoleague.also when does the blur for 10 euro at gamestop? and does it have to be 1 game of 15 euro in value or can it be multiable games?

        • Donncha 11:46 am on August 6, 2010 Permalink

You can get Blur at Gamestop for 10 Euro now but you have to trade in a game worth 15 Euro. ie. a recent game. Unfortunately they won’t accept multiple older games, and the games you’re trading in have to be the same format as the one you’re buying.

Borderlands is new enough to be traded in for it.

Oh, I played a brief game of Blur this morning and in the full game my stats had returned to rank 1. Still, I came 6/8 and I was 4/8 for most of the race 🙂

      • TimoleagueDuck 11:59 am on August 6, 2010 Permalink | Reply

do you think just cause 2 is new enough???
i will prob get it soon my aunts work up in cork so they could get it for me.
also i have fable 2 would that be new enough for a xbox game?

        • Donncha 12:02 pm on August 6, 2010 Permalink

Not sure, but you can ring them up. Check out the store locator on gamestop.ie!

I played a few games of the Blur demo with David, Mike, Tye, and Duck (nice to hear the Cork accent!) and while I did good and bad it was great fun. Getting the hang of the power ups really helps. I lost count of the number of times I shot down a fireball (shock?) right behind me!

Last race was a ball. I broke Duck’s winning streak of 9 wins! Somehow he managed to avoid two fireballs fired backwards at him even though he was on my tail, but I think I hit him with the smaller pink projectiles! 🙂

Will I buy the full game? Maybe. If the rest of the guys buy it I probably will. It’s obviously most fun played against friends than against random strangers, especially when everyone has a mic. The one thing that worries me is longevity. It’s only racing after all but I suspect we’ll have a lot of fun with it before it gets boring.

Here’s a review in case you’ve never heard of the game.

If you’re a die hard racing game fan and own every single race title that comes out then this is bound to be a tidy buy there. But for the likes of us lot you’d definitely need two or three people on your friends list who have it so that you can still have some fun while some 8 year old wins with a thirty second lead.

Oh, and after you left we let Duck get his 10 win streak (you reading this Duck – we let you win!). 😉

But, yes, good game, good fun in a party. Against randoms……. well, if that’s your thing.

    • Mark 12:45 am on August 5, 2010 Permalink | Reply

I have this on PS3, hardly played because of the online randomness, So I’m all up for games 🙂
I’ll try and get some tracks learned ..

Mark – if you download the demo we can play together some evening!

I may see if I can find it cheap in Game or Gamestop. The latter have a “trade in” deal right now and there are a number of games gathering dust on my shelf that I’m unlikely to ever play again…

    • tyewebb 3:54 pm on August 5, 2010 Permalink | Reply

I’m probably going to pick up the full game if I can find it on the cheap, it seems like it goes on sale quite frequently so I’ll just to wait to catch one of those.

      • Donncha 4:35 pm on August 5, 2010 Permalink | Reply

Gamestop here in Ireland have a sale going on now. Trade in a game and you can get Blur for 10 Euro.
I just rang them and the guy said the game I trade in has to have a resale value of 15 Euro. I’m just looking at my old Xbox games; Fallout 3, Far Cry 2, Crackdown, Grid, PGR4 … Must be one of those worth 15 Euro, I hope.

    • Donncha 7:58 pm on August 5, 2010 Permalink | Reply

I took the opportunity afforded by a visit to the maternity hospital (congrats to my brother and his wife on the new arrival!) to pop over to Gamestop. Borderlands was new enough to qualify for a trade in but they only accept same format trades in the sale and this was the Xbox version!

Still, got 32 Euro off for all the games I brought in and bought Blur and because I really liked the demo, I bought Modnation Racers too. Last of the big spenders folks!

I got my Blur multiplayer beta code the other day. Haven’t tried it yet but this review promises an interesting game!

Overall, it feels like a cross between Project Gotham Racing mixed with Mario Kart, with just a bit of the Burnout destruction mixed in.

    • David Nicol 9:11 am on March 10, 2010 Permalink | Reply

Pyropuncher has posted a vid of him playing the Beta – http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q83P4Zw55nI

It looks good. I’m not really a fan of racing games because I’m even worse at them than I am at shooters. But I did enjoy Need for Speed Most Wanted and I’ve got another one on the Xbox….something Total Destruction – I forget. Anyway, if there’s loads of dirty playing and blowing stuff up then I’m into that, but Forza and F1 games…….ugh!

      • Donncha 9:40 am on March 10, 2010 Permalink | Reply

Not bad, not bad at all! I used to be a fan of racing games, and even played some F1 game on the PC years years ago. The track layout buried itself in my mind so that when I watched F1 much later I got this sense of deja vu..

Anyway, my favourite racing game of all time has to be Stunt Car Racer on the C64, even played it quite a bit on my mobile.

Check out a not great video – I should record a game against the AI player. The roller coaster track gets very narrow when two cars are nudging each other!

        • David Nicol 11:40 am on March 10, 2010 Permalink

I remember that game, a friend had it on his C64. I always thought it was a rip of Hard Drivin’ in the arcade with lower graphics.

        • Donncha 3:24 pm on March 11, 2010 Permalink

Stunt Car Racer is very different to Hard Drivin’! It’s an adrenalin rush, where (IMO) Hard Drivin’ was plodding along a road with a few twists and acrobatics thrown in 🙂

    • David Nicol 8:15 pm on March 11, 2010 Permalink | Reply

Well, when it cost 50p a go compared to all the other games in the arcade which were 10-20p it was an adrenaline rush to stay on the track. The loop-the-loop…..weeeeeeeeeee crash and burn. That was always the benefit of home computer games, they didn’t break the bank and you could play them over and over.

      • Donncha 8:18 pm on March 11, 2010 Permalink | Reply

Well, that’d certainly raise the pressure! I think I only played it once just because it was so expensive!
