Black Ops Combat Training split screen can actually be fun! I figured out that the second player can change team so we’re both on the same side so myself and my brother had a ball against the enemy AI.

Getcrackin joined us for a few games too and as we were playing recruits he mowed them down!

I’m sure recruit level difficulty is more difficult than it was when the game first came out. The enemy AI throw a lot less grenades now too. I didn’t need flak jacket at all!

The fact that they were recruits definitely helped, but that they have x-ray vision …not such a help :-/ That was fun, though. I was going to suggest we play free-for-all in a private match where we goof around with ballistic knives, tomahawks and sniper rifles. That’s what my friend and I do half the time we’re playing.

    The Garnz Intro

Nice, Garnz uploaded an intro and gameplay video from Black Ops!

You played 7 hours straight? I miss those days! Years ago I was asked how I had so much time to spend developing free software and I shrugged. I just did. Of course I was living at home and had all the luxuries and none of the responsibilities of being a parent and home owner. About 18 years ago I stayed up the whole night on a Saturday night coding in assembler on my C64. I looked out the window and saw the sunshine hit the tops of the trees. I was wrecked that day I can tell you!

Eh? What’s that youngster? In my day we had cardboard boxes and we were glad of them!

Morse code? What’s that? We had the Pony Express! Latency was terrible but bandwidth was amazing! 😉

All time highest Black Ops killstreak: 14 kills

Yes, yes, yes. All you super-duper lightning fast 360-noscope blah blah players are laughing right now but I got my highest killstreak in Black Ops in a game of TDM with some random players yesterday. 14 kills without dying!

Quite pleased with myself I can tell you!

I did narrate this video but it’s so rubbish it doesn’t deserve to see the light of day. Hope you enjoy the minor killing spree in this “no comment” version.

Oh, and Hanni! You’ll enjoy the very last clip!

Thanks guys! It was a great game, and I somehow had a great game of Bad Company 2 Conquest last night. Capped the flags lots of times and got 2 killstreaks of 8 kills. Game was half an hour so it might take a while to edit it down ..

There’s a huge update for Bad Company 2 coming on the PS3 this evening, including data and assets for Map Pack 7 and Vietnam so it’ll be big. It can’t come soon enough if you ask me!

Duck, Conor and myself had so much trouble getting into games of Black Ops we retired to Combat Training where admittedly we had lots of fun. One game we did get into was on launch where we were hammered like shiny new nails into plywood. Very quickly and with little apparent effort. Grrr.

Still, I had a game of TDM early in the evening on Havana and got the first kill with that grenade throw. Very satisfying!

woah, 1752MB download. I wonder if I set the date on my PS3 to a few days ahead will it suddenly activate the map pack? 😉

      Good to know.

Yeah, the Black Ops servers are terrible. I went on for a couple of hours tonight with a friend and we kept getting kicked out (sometimes into theater mode and combat training).

Wii Call of Duty Black Ops

Black Ops on the Wii looks interesting. Graphics are not as good as the PS3 or Xbox 360, but that’s to be expected. It still plays at quite a blistering pace. The wandering gun sight might make viewers sick however. It tends to jump around quite a bit!

I’ve said it before (maybe in my head, but probably in this video) but watching other players in the theater mode in Black Ops is enlightening.

Sometimes I’m outgunned but more often than not it’s because I rush around too much and I’m easy pickings for those with more patience. I’m no Pyropuncher, by a long shot.

So what should a level 9 Black Ops player do? My favourite weapon class is the assault rifle but I’ve only unlocked the Enfield so far. It can be effective but against higher level players I’m outgunned.

I need to play more defensively, I think.

I watched a game I played last night in which I went 6-13 on Jungle (it’s in my recent games list) and it was interesting seeing the highest scoring player play in Theater. He went around with a shotgun and played brilliantly. In one confrontation he jumped out of a hut flanking three enemy soldiers and took them all down. Later however he grabbed a sniper rifle and lay on the ground for a good 20 seconds with the scope on trained on one location. Guess who was unlucky enough to go (slowly and warily) around that corner? Yeah, I still recall thinking he must have been a little camping fecker to get that kill…

So what are your favourite assault loadouts? Duck was using the galil and that motion detector along with his RC car. I watched Mike use that motion detector too in a game of domination but I don’t know if I’ve unlocked it yet. I’m currently using the Enfield with extended mags with hardline, sleight of hand and ninja perks and my global KDR is 0.75.

    What would you do?

    • gt7570b 11:17 am on November 21, 2010 Permalink | Reply

It’s against my nature to play defensively and slow. Hence why my fun is low on COD:BO.

      • Donncha 8:38 pm on November 21, 2010 Permalink | Reply

I hear ya! I played 3 games of domination tonight and did fairly well, mostly. I did have to slow down a bit though, and defended capped flags as well as capping them which helped up my rate of kills. Much better than a previous 2 games of the same mode on Launch where we got hammered! I don’t think I’ll like that map.

        • getcrackin 10:29 pm on November 21, 2010 Permalink

Give Launch a chance. I’ve found that map to be pretty fun if you know where to run and what corners or perches to check.

    • tyewebb 7:22 pm on November 21, 2010 Permalink | Reply

If you want to stick with Assault rifles, you might give the Famas a chance, it seems to do fairly well at distance and close quarters. But I’d also give the SMGs a chance, I use SMGs almost all the time. The MP5 and AK-74 with extended mags are great. When I run extended mags I usually don’t use sleight of hand because in theory I shouldn’t have to reload as often and go with steady aim instead.
Even after the sound update I’m still not a fan of ninja, its still really hard to hear anybody and I use hacker instead. I’ve found its pretty nice being able to see claymores laying around and it has saved me many a time.
Also if you are playing domination and are going to be capping flags throw Flak jacket and smoke on. Flak jacket is amazing, as people are raining grenades down on you while you cap a flag, you can just laugh at their efforts.

      • Donncha 8:41 pm on November 21, 2010 Permalink | Reply

I just unlocked the Famas! I’m actually level 14, dunno where those last 5 levels went! I played with it earlier and did ok as I said in the comment above. I totally agree with you about Flak jacket, I was thinking that as I died yet again to a nearby grenade..

Thanks for the advice on sleight of hand and ninja. I suppose Ninja will come into it’s own when the sound is finally fixed, if it ever is.

Wow! It’s been over a week for me since I’ve played. I’m having a hard time remembering the perks. I think I like running with Ghost, Sleight of Hand, Ninja (I think they’re all Pro versions). I was messing around with that setup, though, to get XP for leveling up to the Pro versions of other perks -as well as for the sake of messing around a bit. I have to throw back some grenades for Flak Jacket Pro and be awarded some medals for Lightweight Pro. I know I was working on Warlord… I might have already completed that one.
      Kits…
      1. Gotta make yourself an anti-air class equipped with a lock-on launcher and Ghost (take down 30 aircraft with launcher for Pro). Remember that Spy Planes count as aircraft and there should be plenty of those flying around.
      2. SMGs: AK74u with Rapid Fire (and Grip if using Warlord) using Scavenger (only if you think you’ll live long enough to need replenishing) or Ghost (the standby). I used it during Ground War, so I didn’t need Scavenger.
      3. AssRifles(lol): Galil with Red Dot is what I have equipped, but you could attach whatever you want and it would still be good. You might have to burst fire at a distance, though.
      4. Equipment is up to you. I’ve just been using the claymores, but will be using other equipment for perk requirements.

      FIN

    Dancing with Zombies

Fun with zombies in Black Ops last night. Sulley, Redd Dragons, Duck and myself played zombies and had a little fun with a solitary zombie while we decided what to do for the next round.

Fun with zombies is when you dance with the last remaining zombie in a level and you go around and around. Poor guy gets quite angry. Yes, got it recorded, clip later 🙂

Forgot to mention, if you’re playing split screen combat training then you and the other local player are put on opposite teams. My brother called over last night and he has basically got zero experience with online gaming so the experience sucked for him. Only later did I realise that if I had a third controller I could put a “fake” player on the other team while we presumably played on the same team. Unfortunately powering up the Move controller didn’t count so I’ll have to find another controller.

I may buy another PS3 controller anyway because one I own is slightly broken, the rim of the left controller has split causing problems occasionally.

    COD Black Ops Updated

Good news today! Black Ops has been updated! Lots and lots of fixes in this patch but one I’m really excited about is one right at the end:

Additional fine-tuning of audio levels and ranges for footsteps and gunfire

Maybe now I’ll be able to hear the baddies in my headphones and Ninja will be useful. (Thanks Mike for the heads up on the update!)

(And please DICE staff, if you’re reading this. We’re still looking forward to the next installment of BfBC2 expansions. BLOPS is simply a stop gap until map pack 7 and the Vietnam expansion are released!)

Update (2010-11-18) The post linked above has been updated with 2 very important changes:

Improvements to the spawn system to resolve an issue where negative spawn influencers from specific game events were not always being deleted after the danger had cleared – in some matches, this was causing good spawns to be erroneously flagged by the game as bad spawns, which in turn forced actual bad spawns to get selected later in the match
Experimental slight reduction in knife lunge range – this is a trial change

    Have you noticed these changes?

      Hi mate,

Damien has asked me to ask you if this patch is on both formats (PS3 & XBOX) or just PS3?

      • Donncha 1:24 pm on November 18, 2010 Permalink | Reply

It’s on both AFAIK. I’d say the codebase on each is probably fairly similar.

Bad Company 2 is a great game, if you ever do get a PS3 you have to get this game. I have it on Xbox too but finding time to play them all is a problem!)

If I get a ps3, this will be the first game I get without any doubt. I need a good medic to show me the ropes 😉
