It would seem that friends playing together is regarded as team stacking in Team Fortress 2.

On one hand that’s great because the server is free to balance teams but it sucks when you want to play with friends you’re chatting with on Skype. Any notion of playing strategically as a team goes out the window when you have to be careful what you say. The same happens with Bad Company 2 on PC.

Who ever decided that a server browser was the best way to join a game anyway? I Just want to play a game with my friends! I don’t care what server I’m on.

PC players will look down on console players because they have to use fiddly controllers but the squad system in Bad Company 2 on consoles is a great way of getting a group of friends into a game. Yes, there is team stacking, but servers do auto balance as well (sometimes). Then like any of the platforms you have to try to get back to your old squad. At least you start out on the same team!

Now, come on Microsoft and Sony. Let console players use a mouse and keyboard! Best of both worlds!

Choosing to play with friends is not team stacking. Going in as a try hard clan is team stacking. The autobalancing on PC is the single biggest PIA for PC gaming. Especially when it switches sides on you at the end of the game and suddenly you go from winning to losing.

The only people who complain about team stacking are noobs who suck ass. Ignore them and game on.

The only times I play multiplayer games are when I’m playing with friends and we usually end up holding up the team and winning as a result. What do you think clan tags are for? 🙂

Are there clan tags in TF2? I don’t think there are 😦

    BfBC2: Fighting Back against CheaTs

A recent game I had with Gavin and ThrashHMG against a very tough attacking team. Somehow we kept them off, and I think they were just unlucky not to get the 3rd base as they flanked behind us and were picking off defenders at their leisure!

Well done team, and great to see Bravo 2 Company do well! 🙂

It feels like it’s been forever since the last big PS3 B2C night. Might try to arrange for one toward the end of the month when I expect to have my new Slim system up and running.

Somehow I’m known for “hacked lobbies” on Xbox 360. How the hell did that happen?

While playing Bad Company 2 with Dvotee, NorseValkyr1e and macmanx this evening a random guy from my friendslist joined our party and asked about hacked lobbies. Why would I get you into a hacked lobby? I hate the thought of them, and don’t even play Modern Warfare 2 any more!

I think I should clean up my XBL friends list. Only people I know and/or have played BC2 with survive the cull!

Maybe they saw your epic jeep race through the mountains and figured no normal player could do that? 🙂

I blame MyFingersHurt, we had such a good time I had to recreate it. I think it was him went over that ledge and into the AA gun on Bravo the first time 🙂

        • James 9:04 am on June 6, 2011 Permalink

I was watching from behind in the tank. I couldn’t figure out why everyone was screaming, then I saw the jeep rip up the hill and fly off the edge.

It was just so hilarious, I still laugh every time I think about it. 🙂

You have to ask yourself: What would Ken Burton do?

Here’s another friend request message I just received on XBL. I wonder if he was just watching my Zombie Dance video?

xeer2000 i really want to be yur friend so plz giv me a chance i am really good at zombies so plz allow me 2

Doesn’t the lack of recent BLOPs videos hint at the fact I don’t play it any more? Besides, only ever had it on PS3!

    Shaz1874: BfBC2 Campaign Highlights

Great montage of clips from the Bad Company 2 campaign by Shaz1874 (and final editing with help from Laurie Dunsire). I’ve finished the campaign on all 3 platforms and it’s a great experience, though I did prefer the Bad Company 1 campaign.

    • Alex M. 9:09 am on May 16, 2011 Permalink | Reply

Having played it on all 3 platforms, which do you prefer it on? Both for single player (PC I assume) and multiplayer (360 maybe? or PC?).

      • Donncha 9:18 am on May 16, 2011 Permalink | Reply

There’s not much between them really. The only difference really is the control method and I’m now fairly comfortable with all of them.

I think the best version is the one you’re most used to. Thankfully DICE did a good cross platform job of this so unlike BLOPS it plays the same on each machine.

The PC version obviously has the best graphics but I’m more likely to do well with a console controller.

If you put a gun to my head I’d rather play the multiplayer game on the PS3. I don’t really care which platform I’d play the campaign on though.

    • getcrackin 9:24 pm on May 16, 2011 Permalink | Reply

I think I’m gonna have to play at least some of the campaign on PC in order to gain some familiarity with the controls.

It’s a help but if auto aim is enabled, and I can’t remember if it is, disable it for that slightly more authentic MP feel!

PC Fun on Bad Company 2

Defffik was good enough to record some of our games last night. First time for David playing the PC version of Bad Company 2, Gavin is fairly new to that version too and I leveled up to 10 so we’re all a little rusty playing with mouse and keyboard.

It was my first time playing with the my new mouse, the Logitech G500, and it made a huge difference! I bound buttons on the mouse to knifing, use, and grenades as well as using the higher DPI for the tanks which is like pumping gallons of WD-40 into the turret. That thing flies around when the sensitivity is pumped up!

‘Course, when we came up against a team of level 50s David, Gavin and I suffered badly but we still had a great time.

    • Redd_dragons 3:11 pm on May 10, 2011 Permalink | Reply

Interesting, I’ve been looking at the g500 on Tye’s recommendation. So you bind a key that will up the DPI? or you just run a higher dpi all the time? PC gaming is confusing haha

      • Donncha 3:40 pm on May 10, 2011 Permalink | Reply

Yup, besides the wheel, there are 5 configurable buttons (and the wheel has left/right too).

2 buttons by default can be configured to change DPI on the fly. You can set 3-5 steps of DPI, I use 3 and there’s an LED display marking the step. So for running around as infantry I use 1600-2000 DPI and in tanks I use 5700 DPI. Because the sensitivity is set the same all the time, the mouse moves your cursor faster at higher DPI. In tanks it moves the turret a LOT faster.

Friends vs Friends on Bad Company 2

The other night we played Bad Company 2 on PS3 for a few hours with almost a full team of us on Skype! Unfortunately due to the match making system in the game not everyone could get on the same team despite repeated attempts to do so.

A couple of others were off Skype and missed the hilarity of inter-team communication but they also didn’t have to mind that enemy players were within ear shot and could take advantage of spoken comments..

Regardless, it was a great night. Here are some clips I put together from a few of those games. Thanks to everyone who could make it. Xbox Night next or PS3 again?

Make sure to check out the summary post Paul made on the Bravo 2 Company website too. He linked to David and Gavin’s videos too!

The B2C clan website is at http://bravo2company.com/, want me to create a user for you there? I’ll name it after your gamertag. Probably be next week, usually in the evenings UTC, but we should try for a weekend game too so as not to conflict with work.

        • James 4:19 am on April 16, 2011 Permalink

Sure, please create an account for me. 🙂

I do work a few weekends, but usually not both days.

Well I think xbox personally will be a better so we can get a couple of the guys fairly new to it involved but the PSN night was so hilarious so we need to do it again and soon!

So is James a new member? Gamertag? And if so welcome 😉

Gamertag MacManX, please feel free to add me. 🙂

Had the day off work, so I spent most of the day on Bad Company 2, but it sure is a lot more fun when you can actually talk to someone and work as a real team.

        • Donncha 9:54 pm on April 16, 2011 Permalink

James – added you on bravo2company.com, including the soldiers page so hopefully you’ll get a few friend requests from guys who play the game! 🙂

Awesome, thanks! Nice stats too! I’ll get my KDR up soon, it’s only because I had a bad habit of “Rambo Reviving.” I have since learned that one must clear the area first. 😉

    The Gamer’s Craic #3

Episode 3 of The Gamer’s Craic podcast is now live, with the “guest this time is NGT director and Hupit bod Gary, AKA Hypermole and also mole237 on YouTube.” David did a great job of editing it as always. Thanks Gary for coming on the show!

It was a laugh doing it, but DO NOT listen past the end. No good will come of listening past the end jingle. No, do not do it. Really!

Also this morning episode 14 of the Don’t Revive Me Bro podcast was released with Daniel Matros, aka zh1nt0 who talked at length about Battlefield and other things.

Some gameplay from a few games the other night on my second PSN account, xeer2000. Played with David, Conor and Miquel and had a great time.

Watch as I level up to level 2 and get about halfway to level 3!

    TyeWebb’s defense on Laguna Presa

TyeWebb’s first Bad Company 2 commentary and it’s great. As a console player on PC he came across many of the same problems I had/have with the different control mechanics. He’s a lot further on in the game now and runs rings around me whenever we’re placed on different teams!

    BfBC2: Recon’s Revenge

If there’s one thing I don’t like it’s being shot out of a moving vehicle by a sniper in Bad Company 2.

That’s what happened to me when I joined a game on Arica Harbour as an attacker. I hopped in a Humvee and roared up the road only to die at the hands of a sniper in the tower on the hills. FFS! I only logged in to check the networking was ok (getting the “The router in use may not support IP fragments, and the communication features of some games may be restricted.” error.)

Anyway, I came back as a recon, and armed with the M24 and 12x scope I spawned near the UAV controller. From there I could see a tiny dot moving about in his tower and the occasional flash as he continued to take pot shots at my team. I tried a few shots but an electricity pylon got in the way. I dodged over to the other side of the road for a clearer view and on my second shot got the kill! Me? The noob recon got a long distance kill, marksman headshot or something and 413 points! Woohoo! Yes David, I performed a ritual teabagging too. You’d be proud.

‘Course I didn’t record it. My PVR is upstairs, laptop in the kitchen, PS3 in the living room. Bah.

Oh, and if anyone has any suggestions for the “ip fragments” problem I’d love to hear them. I already set the MTU lower without making any difference to the error showing. None of my friends were playing so I didn’t get a chance to talk to anyone so I don’t even know if it is a problem. I don’t even remember if I that error was showing before. Oh well.

Anyhoo, what’s this with ip fragments and what not. Did I miss a post somewhere?
