    Battlefield 3 Weapon Damage

Den Kirson is at it again Amrosorma, CrustyM, erk070, and tomchuk of ESDECO produced a neat weapon damage spreadsheet for Battlefield 3 here.

I haven’t checked it out yet but as I’ve hardly unlocked anything it probably doesn’t really matter to me yet any way!

Some Battlefield 3 tips and myths here. The first two I saw myself, the third from here and summarised by Gavin:

    • When you die bullets and rockets will still fly through the air. I disabled a tank after I died in one game.
    • The knifing animation can be interrupted if the attacker is killed. I was lying on the ground, then suddenly looking into this guy’s face and at the sky and gunfire shot him down and I escaped!
    • If you plant a mobile spawn point and die don’t come back as a recon as the spawn point will explode.

Lots of great discussion on the Battlelog forum.

BF3: It all started out so well..

Battlefield 3 was finally released in Ireland and the UK and elsewhere yesterday. I had a few games early in the evening and then later played with a few of the guys.

Yes, stats aren’t everything but looking at a killcam all the time isn’t fun either!

That’s the same KDR I wound up with.

As long as you’re playing objective-based games, it really doesn’t matter. The new SPM should be more important, followed by WLR. A low KDR just means that you’re selflessly charging objective while the rest of your team is off getting their jollies.

Ohhhh James I like the way you put that. Yes my K/D is rubbish as Im trying to win the game, not increase my K/D

        Works for me !

Sanctum and other indie games all for $2 cheap!

The Indie Royale bundle is offering Sanctum, Ares, Nimbus and Gemini Rue for a knock down but slowly increasing price. It started at $2 but it’s currently showing as €3.67 here. The more people pay the minimum the higher the price, pay more and the price goes down.

I already have 3 of the games so I’m not buying but Sanctum alone is worth the entry fee.

    Batman Arkham Asylum Combat Tips

I’m still at the stage where I just mash the attack and evade buttons in combat. The first video above shows a simple but better technique by evading enemies with jumps and the second one is the “Perfect Freeflow 2.0” achievement showing how to do the following moves in slow motion.

    1 – Standard Strike – PS3: Square I Xbox 360: X
    2 – Stun – PS3: Circle I Xbox 360: B
    3 – Evade Jump – PS3: X I Xbox 360: A
    4 – Counter – PS3: Trianlge I Xbox 360: Y
    5 – Special Combo Takedown – PS3: Trianlge+Circle I Xbox 360: Y+B
    6 – Special Combo Bat Swarm – PS3: Square+X I Xbox 360: X+A
    7 – Special Combo Disarm And Destroy – PS3: Triangle+Square I Xbox 360: Y+X
    8 – Special Combo Multi Ground Takedown – PS3: Circle+X I Xbox 360: B+A
    9 – Aerial Attack – PS3: Circle, Left Stick+X, X I Xbox 360: X, Left Stick+A, A
    10 – Beat Down Finisher – PS3: Circle, Square (8 times) I Xbox 360: B, X (8 times)
    11 – Batclaw Slam – PS3: L1+Trianlge, Square I Xbox 360: LB+Y, X
    12 – Ultiamte Stun – PS3: Circle, Circle, Circle I Xbox 360: B, B, B
    13 – Ground Pound – PS3: R2+Triangle I Xbox 360: RT+Y

I now wish Battlefield 3 wasn’t coming out on Friday as I won’t have time to devote to this amazing and beautiful game!

Bonus link: Combat, Gadgets, Upgrades, Riddler Challenges, and More!

Anyone I’ve spoken loves the game though I did hear something interesting about the ending 🙂

Looking over those button combos I don’t think I’d like playing this, I’m not a fan of having to use button combos during fight scenes. Apart from that it looks like a great game.

If you like Batman you will love the story in this one. I just came across the Joker and well, wow. Combat is partly button mashing but you can buy upgrades. Some of the actions above have to be bought when you level up, but you can activate a tutorial to help.

I have a tutorial on the critical hit upgrade activated. If you hit attack (square) just as you finish the previous attack you’ll get a crit. Do it wrong and a very brief warning flashes up. I see that a lot …

After playing the story 2 nights now I’m on a high each time, it’s like taking part in a Batman graphic novel.

I’ve got the first Batman here but have never played it. I think I’ll move onto that next once I complete Mass Effect 2. If I like it I’ll give this one a spin.

The latest Battlefield 3 trailer makes me wish the game was out right now and that I had a PC fast enough to run it. PS3 and Xbox 360 for me!

Prince of Persia for the C64

Prince of Persia, an amazing game released in 1989 on the Apple II and ported to most platforms of the day but not the Commodore 64 for some reason.

In 2 days time the game is due to be released on the C64 in EasyFlash format, a cartridge format for the C64 but luckily Vice also supports it so I’ll be able to play it under emulation. Looks great doesn’t it?

    • David Nicol 8:01 pm on October 14, 2011 Permalink | Reply

I remember Prince of Persia getting rave reviews when it first came out all those years ago.

And the game has been released! Here’s a development blog, the csdb page and a review of the game with technical details. Interesting that the game uses 40KB for the main player’s sprites! Couldn’t have been done without the EasyFlash rom I guess.

        I’ll be playing this tonight!

11 minute of Syndicate and it looks boring as hell

It’s an early level from the game but it’s so disappointing. Your player rolls around the level with arms outstretched holding a handgun. I hope the final game is better than the impression this gameplay teaser gives.

There’s far too many ways to kill enemies in this game. It’s like the guy is all powerful.

    • Donncha 10:09 am on October 14, 2011 Permalink | Reply

Nick – you should play the original game. Huge selection of weapons but really, after you unlock the minigun there’s not much point using anything else except for entertainment purposes.
There are sniper rifles useful on some levels and the last level needs a particular weapon to get anywhere but the minigun is all powerful 🙂

RPS had a quick 10 minute play of Syndicate, of the same section we saw in the trailer above. Not good either..

    L4D2: Help them up!

Lord of Angry mmmmmar person was a bit of a douche when we played L4D2 gibfest tonight. It was great fun until that guy joined. He was fairly useless, charging ahead and shooting us all the time.

We got our revenge when he got knocked down. Duck watched as his health slowly drained away. He wasn’t happy! 🙂

I love the democracy-in-action box on the left. IMPEACH! hahaha
You know, I downloaded this game months ago and still haven’t played it. Is there a campaign or is it all MP?

      • Donncha 12:28 pm on October 13, 2011 Permalink | Reply

There is a campaign you can play single player but then bots take over the other 3 members of your team. Playing the campaign with us is a lot more fun! There are quite a few different MP modes too, gibfest is a temporary “mutation” that’s active now. Everyone gets an M60 with infinite ammo.

        It’s bloody 🙂

BF3: Bombing and Dogfighting in the jet

Impressive video showing off the bombing capabilities of the jet in Battlefield 3. Nice number of points earned!

    • David Nicol 6:19 pm on October 9, 2011 Permalink | Reply

I’d like to know what the rest of his team were doing while he was taking out their tanks. Quadruple capped!

    • Donncha 6:56 pm on October 9, 2011 Permalink | Reply

Yeah, that was pretty disturbing. The enemy took them with ease, must have been a near empty server. Or just people waiting at the airfield for the jet to spawn again ..

    • James 6:59 pm on October 9, 2011 Permalink | Reply

BF3 just needs more realistic audio warnings. “Be advised, you aren’t helping your team. It’s cool, but we’re losing, so take an objective, please.”

    • Dvotee 10:43 am on October 13, 2011 Permalink | Reply

Totally agree with you but I have to say some pretty impressive jet play there.
